Here is list of recent quotes from a few Sony execs and PR people. I’m sure I missed a few quotes as I was only looking for somewhat recent stuff. Most of these quotes are related to the PS3, the PSP and their respective competition (XBOX360, Wii and DS). What do you think?1. “We feel very confident that the PlayStation fan is going to wait until they can get a PlayStation 3. If they do pick up a Wii, it’s as more of a novelty.”
Dave Karraker, senior director of corporate communications at Sony Computer Entertainment America in an interview with the Wall Street Journal

2. “Wii is a core gaming device. It’s a more fun, intuitive sort of product to pick up, where the PS3 is a broader entertainment solution; so you can have your fun, enjoyable gaming . but then you have a whole suite of other applications”.
Sony Australia & New Zealand general manager Nic Foster in an interview with the Sydney morning herald’s Asher Moses

3. “The idea of a handheld rivalry with Nintendo is an irrelevance. Those formats don’t appear in our planning. It’s not a fair comparison; not fair on them, I should stress. That sounds arrogant, maybe, but it’s the truth. With the DS, it’s fair to say that Nintendo stepped out of the technical race and went for a feature differentiation with the touch screen. But I fear that it won’t have a lasting impact beyond that of a gimmick – so the long-lasting appeal of the platform is at peril as a direct result of that.”
Phil Harrison, president of Sony Computer Entertainment’s Worldwide Studios in an interview with MCV comparing the DS and the PSP

4. “Microsoft is not a technology company.”
Nobuyuki Idei, Sony chief corporate adviser in an interview with BBC NEWS

5. Q. How much will PS3’s delay hurt Australian sales in the long term? A: “Talking to our retailers I would have to say none. I know that’s a bold statement, but based on pre-orders, every retailer has told us that they’ve had fractional percentages of cancellations. I think from the early adopters, they’re the foundation of this industry, and they want the best systems when they’re available. The early adopters will buy PlayStation 3”.
Michael Ephraim, Managing Director of Sony Computer Entertainment Australia in an interview with the age.com.au

6.“I wish that they [Msft] would come up with some strategies of their own, but they seem to be going down the path of everything we do.”
SCEA boss Kaz Hirai in an interview with Official PlayStation Magazine

7. [says the Wii is] “a bit pricey”
Michael Ephraim, Managing Director of Sony Computer Entertainment Australia in an interview with the age.com.au comparing the value of the PS3 compared to the Wii
8. [says the Xbox360 is] “a big investment for family entertainment.”
Michael Ephraim, Managing Director of Sony Computer Entertainment Australia in an interview with the age.com.au comparing the value of the PS3 compared to the xbox

9. “Sorry you didn’t have the opportunity to buy a PS3 this year, but I’m sure it beats lining up in a queue for hours on end only to be told the store has sold out.”
Michael Ephraim, Managing Director of Sony Computer Entertainment Australia in an interview with the age.com.au speaking about delays.

10. “I think when you compare the two products, the Nintendo product versus our product, it’s kind of apples and oranges. We’re providing more of an entertainment system, and they’re focused more on gaming.”
Dave Karraker, PR head for Sony in an interview with pspfanboy.com Comparing PSP to the Nintendo DS

11. “PS2’s Dual Shock controller is the de-facto industry standard for video games.” And “We define the standard for the man-machine interface for playing games.”
Phil Harrison, president of Sony Computer Entertainment’s Worldwide Studios, in an interview with GameSpot

12. “You can look at the software that they sell. All their licensed kid stuff. So, what we’re doing with the PlayStation Portable is really establishing a new marketplace, and establishing, frankly, a new beachhead.”
Sony US Senior Vice President of Marketing, Peter Dille in an interview with Engadget

13. “If you look at what’s happening in retail, 360 has done fairly well at launch but since then it has struggled to kick up a gear to the next level of sales. I think their product offering is still not broad enough. The content is narrow and appeals only to a very core group”
Michael Ephraim, Managing Director of Sony Computer Entertainment Australian in an interview with the age.com.au

14. “I have no concerns about the competition.”
Phil Harrison, president of Sony Computer Entertainment’s Worldwide Studios speaking at the Game Developer Conference
15. “Busted. Nailed. Snagged. As many of you have figured out (maybe our speech was a little too funky fresh???), Peter isn’t a real hip-hop maven and this site was actually developed by Sony. Guess we were trying to be just a little too clever. From this point forward, we will just stick to making cool products, and use this site to give you nothing but the facts on the PSP. Sony Computer Entertainment America”
unknown Sony rep admits to being the masterminds of the “all I want for Christmas is a PSP” viral marketing campaign.

16. “We’re really looking at our target as urban nomads,”

17. “The PlayStation 3 is a computer. We do not need the PC.”

18. “Q: So are you saying that not having an exclusive on Grand Theft Auto doesn’t hurt you at all? A: No, I don’t think it hurts us. No, I really don’t.”
Sony of America co-COO Jack Tretton in an interview with the street.com

19. “Gengi is an action game based on famous battles which actually took place in Ancient Japan” “So here’s this Giant Enemy Crab”, And You “attack it’s weak point for Massive Damage” also notable from E3 “Five Hundred and ninety-nine US dollars”and “Its Ridge Racer!!!”
Some Sony E3 quotes (these are just some funny quotes – nothing seriously damaging)

20. “We Dont Care”
SCEA boss Kaz Hirai in an interview at Tokyo game show when asked about the Ps3’s competition.

21. “Nobody will ever use 100% of PS3’s capability”
Phil Harrison, president of Sony Computer Entertainment’s Worldwide Studios speaking with MTV news.

22. “I don’t think we’re arrogant”
